screenme.science

Member Terms

These terms apply to you if you are screened with screenme.science — whether an organisation invited you or you pay for your own screenings. They apply together with our Privacy Policy. You accept them before you enrol your face photo or take a screening. Face recognition needs a separate consent, which is set out at the end of this page and which you give or refuse on its own.

1. What screenme.science does, and what it does not do

screenme.science ("we", "us") – email: [email protected].

We verify the test procedure: the app records how you carry out an at-home rapid test, checks that the steps were carried out as instructed, compares your face in the recording with your reference photo, and issues a timestamped record. Anything that does not match is flagged for a person to review.

screenme.science is not a medical device. screenme.science is for informational purposes only and does not constitute professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It does not make a diagnosis, give medical advice or guarantee that a test, a result or a verification is accurate. A rapid test can give a false result. If a result is positive or unclear, or you are worried about your health, follow the test manufacturer's instructions and speak to a doctor.

2. Who is responsible for how your screenings are used

The party that pays for a screening is responsible for its use.

If you take part through an organisation — an employer, a school, a club or any other programme — that organisation pays. It decides whether and how screenings are used, is responsible for making sure its use is lawful, for informing you and having a legal basis, and for the decisions it takes on the basis of your results. Questions about why you are asked to be screened, or what happens with the result, go to that organisation first.

If you pay for your own screenings, you are responsible for how you use them and for the decisions you take on the basis of them.

We do not assess whether a particular use of screenings is lawful.

If you pay for a screening through a company's link, section 8 also applies.

3. What we ask of you

Give your real name, and take the test yourself, with a new and unused test, following the instructions in the app. Do not submit a recording of someone else, do not manipulate the test or the recording, and do not let anyone else use your account.

Where the person being screened is under 14, an adult must be present and must collect or supervise the collection of the sample.

Keep your sign-in secure.

4. Identity check before your first screening

Before your first screening, you verify your identity once with Didit (didit.me), an identity verification service: you photograph an identity document and take a selfie, which Didit compares with the photo on the document. Right after the check passes, you take a reference photo of your face. Our face recognition (section 6) compares it once with the portrait from your identity document, which we receive from Didit only for that comparison and do not keep, and at every later screening compares your face with that reference photo. There is no second identity check, and the check costs you nothing extra. If you joined before the identity check was introduced, you complete it before your next screening.

From Didit we keep only the outcome (verified or not), your name as read from the document, the time of the check and Didit's reference for it — never the document, the selfie or the portrait. You are asked for your explicit consent before the check. Without it you cannot take screenings that require identity verification.

5. Who sees what

You see everything about your own screenings.

If you belong to an organisation's group, its coordinator sees your name and whether your identity was verified, and for each screening whether you completed it and when, whether it was verified, and its result. The coordinator never sees your identity document, your reference photo, the video of your screenings or any image of your face — only a cropped photograph of the test cassette, so that they can read the result. If you pay for a screening through a company's link, section 8 applies.

Our reviewers see the recording and images of a screening only when it needs a person to review it. Such access is logged.

If you share a record of a screening, the person you share it with sees only its date and code, the result, and — if a review confirmed that the test was manipulated — that it failed.

6. Face recognition

Checking that the person taking the test matches your reference photo uses face recognition, which needs your explicit consent. You give or refuse it separately from these terms — it is not a condition of accepting them. Without it you cannot take screenings that require identity verification. You can withdraw it at any time in your profile.

7. If you pay for your own screenings

Tests and credits are paid for in advance, at the price shown when you buy them. Tests and credits do not expire. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred, except where the app offers it. Payments are handled by a payment provider, which receives no screening data.

Right of withdrawal for consumers in the EU, the EEA and the UK. If you are a consumer living there and buy tests or credits, you may withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of the day you made it, without giving any reason. To withdraw, send us a clear statement — for example an email to [email protected] saying: "I withdraw from my purchase of [tests/credits] made on [date]", with your name and the email address of your account. Sending it before the 14 days end is enough.

If you withdraw, we refund the payment for that purchase within 14 days of receiving your statement, using the same means of payment, at no cost to you. If the service has already begun at your request, we refund the tests you have not used.

At checkout you are asked whether you expressly request that the service begin immediately, before the end of the 14-day withdrawal period, and acknowledge that you may lose your right of withdrawal once the service has been completely performed. Payment is only possible if you tick that box.

This does not affect any other statutory rights you have.

8. Screenings you pay for through a company's link

This section applies when a company — for example an employer, a venue or an event organiser — gives you a link or QR code and you pay for your screening yourself. Where it differs from sections 2, 5 and 7, this section applies.

Price and payment. The company that issued the link sets the price per screening; it is at least 3.00 EUR. The price is shown on the link page and at checkout before you pay, and it is the total you pay. You pay us directly, as a consumer; payments are handled by our payment provider. The company is not a party to the payment; we pay it a share of the price (30 %) as commission. If the company later changes its price, the price you already paid does not change.

Who the screening is for. A screening bought through a link is requested by, and belongs to, the company that issued the link. Its name is shown on the payment page and on your receipt. Your account stays yours alone: it is not attached to the company, and you can use it with other companies' links. Screenings bought through a later link belong to the company that issued that link; earlier screenings stay with the company they were bought for.

Identity check. The one-time identity check in section 4 applies to you too: it takes place at your first screening, is included in the price and is reused for every company. Companies never see your identity document, your reference photo or any image of your face.

What the company receives. Before you pay, you are shown what the company will receive, and you agree to it: your name, "Identity verified", whether the screening was done and its date and time, whether it was verified, its result, a cropped photo of the test cassette and the price you paid. A company sees only what you do through its own link, never what you do for another company. The company never receives your identity document, any image of your face or the video of your screening.

Sharing and withdrawing access. You decide who can see each result. Instead of paying for a new screening, you can share a result you already have with another company through that company's link, free of charge, and you can share one result with any number of companies; the company then also sees when the screening was done and when you shared it. You can withdraw a company's access to a result at any time in the app, including the access of the company that requested the screening. The company then sees "Access withdrawn by the visitor". Withdrawal takes effect at once, but it cannot undo what the company has already seen.

Removal by the company. The company can remove you from its client group. You can then no longer pay or screen for that company; nothing changes for any other company. Contact us about any screening you have already paid for and not used.

Unused screenings. If a link is for several screenings, you pay for all of them when you buy. Screenings you have paid for do not expire and can be used only with the company whose link you bought them through. Apart from your right of withdrawal under section 7 and your other statutory rights, which are not affected, unused screenings are not refunded.

Right of withdrawal. Section 7 applies to purchases through a link. At checkout you expressly request that the service begin immediately and acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal for a screening once it has been performed.

For screenings through a link we are the controller of your personal data, including what we pass on to the companies you choose, as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Availability

We work to keep the service available, but we do not promise that it will be available without interruption. We may change or improve features.

10. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), where we have given a guarantee, and where we have fraudulently concealed a defect.

For slight negligence we are liable only if we breach an essential obligation — an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the agreement possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely — and then only for the damage that was foreseeable and typical for this kind of agreement when it was made. Within that, our total liability for all claims arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim arose. Otherwise we are not liable for slight negligence.

Within these limits we are, in particular, not liable for decisions that an organisation, you or others take on the basis of a screening, a verification status or a result, or for the accuracy of third-party test devices.

These limits also apply to our employees, representatives and agents.

11. Data protection

How we process your personal data, how long we keep it and what rights you have are described in our Privacy Policy. If you take part through an organisation, that organisation is the controller of your data and we process it on its behalf.

The media of a screening — its video, the frames taken from it, the face photos taken during it and the photo of the test cassette — is deleted as follows.

A screening with no captured fraud attempt: its media is deleted when the next day starts in the group's time zone, but never before the screening has its final result.

A screening with a captured fraud attempt: its media is kept for 3 days after the decision, then deleted.

A screening with an open dispute: its media is kept as proof until the administrator decides; then the 3-day rule applies.

Only media is deleted. The screening record — its date, code, result, and FAIL where fraud was confirmed — is kept for the history and certificates.

12. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service and close your account at any time. Withdrawing your consent to face recognition does not close your account. We may suspend or close an account after a serious breach of these terms, with a warning first where that is reasonable.

13. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example when the service or the law changes. We will show you the new version before it applies and ask you to accept it. Until you do, you cannot enrol a face photo or take a screening. If you do not accept it, you can close your account.

14. Applicable law

These terms are governed by the law of Germany, where the operator is established, and the courts of Germany have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may also bring proceedings there. If a provision of these terms is invalid, the rest remain in force.

Consumer dispute resolution: we are not obliged and not willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board (§ 36 of the German Consumer Dispute Resolution Act, VSBG). The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform was closed on 20 July 2025.

15. Additional terms for users in the United States

This section applies only if you live in the United States. It adds to the rest of these terms and does not reduce any right you have under the law of the European Union or of Germany. Where it conflicts with another section, this section applies to you.

No medical advice. screenme.science is not a healthcare provider and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Using the service does not create a provider–patient relationship between you and us, or between you and anyone else through us. screenme.science has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). If you think you or someone else may have a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

HIPAA. We are not a "covered entity" or a "business associate" under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Information you give us is protected by these terms and our Privacy Policy, including its United States privacy notice, not by HIPAA.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE LAW OF YOUR STATE, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT AND ACCURACY, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE OR ANY VERIFICATION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR CORRECT.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE LAW OF YOUR STATE, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE OR DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR IT IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.

Some states do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation or exclusion of certain damages, so some or all of these exclusions and limits may not apply to you, and you may have other rights that vary from state to state.

Informal dispute resolution first. Before you bring a claim against us, you agree to email [email protected], describe the claim and what you are asking for, and try in good faith to resolve it with us informally for 30 days from that email. We will do the same before we bring a claim against you. This does not stop either side from bringing a claim in small-claims court or from asking a court for urgent relief to stop ongoing harm.

Children. The service is not directed to children under 13. A child under 13 may be screened only through an organisation or a parent or legal guardian that has given verifiable parental consent as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 in any other way; if you believe we have, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

With your consent, screenme.science uses face recognition to confirm that you, the invited person, are the one taking the test. This consent is voluntary and separate from the Member Terms.

What we process

A reference photo of your face that you take when you enrol, and frames from the video of each screening. We compare your face in those frames with your reference photo. It is a one-to-one comparison: we do not search your face against other people, and we do not keep a biometric template — what we keep is the photograph.

Once, right after your identity check, your reference photo is also compared with the portrait from your identity document, which the identity verification service passes to us for that comparison only; the portrait is not kept.

Why

Only to confirm that the invited person took the test. We do not use your face for any other purpose.

Who sees it

Neither the coordinator of your group nor any company whose link you pay through, or with which you share a result, ever sees your reference photo or any image of your face; they see only your name and that your identity was verified. screenme.science reviewers see your reference photo and screening images only when a comparison needs a person to review it. Every view of a face image is logged with the reviewer and the time.

No automated decision

The comparison only flags a possible mismatch for a person to review. It does not by itself take any decision that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.

How long we keep it

Your reference photo: until your membership of the programme ends, or after 12 months without a screening, whichever comes first — and immediately if you withdraw this consent.

If you take screenings through a company's link and belong to no programme: your reference photo is kept until 12 months without a screening, or deleted at once if you withdraw this consent.

Withdrawing your consent

You can withdraw this consent at any time in your profile, as easily as you gave it. Your reference photo is then deleted at once. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out, and records of past screenings stay for their retention period.

Without this consent you cannot take screenings that require identity verification. If you take part through an organisation, ask it whether there is an alternative. You can give consent again later and enrol a new photo.

Written notice and release for residents of the United States (biometric information)

This part applies if you live in the United States. It is the written notice, retention schedule and release required by state biometric-privacy laws, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14), Texas Business and Commerce Code § 503.001 and Washington RCW 19.375.

What is collected: a photograph of your face that you take when you enrol (your reference photo), and photographs of your face taken from the video of each screening. They are compared one to one with your reference photo. Information derived from that comparison, such as the geometry of your face, may be a biometric identifier or biometric information under these laws.

Purpose: only to confirm that the person taking a screening is the person who was invited, and whose identity was checked, for it. Once, right after the identity check before your first screening, your reference photo is also compared with the portrait from your identity document, which our identity verification service (Didit) passes to us for that comparison only; the portrait is not kept. We use it for no other purpose.

How long it is kept (retention schedule): your reference photo is permanently destroyed when you withdraw this consent, when your membership of the programme ends, or after 12 months without a screening, whichever comes first — and in any case no later than 3 years after your last interaction with us. Face photos taken during a screening are destroyed with the rest of that screening's media, under the rules above.

Who processes it: we do, and the service providers that store and compare the images on our behalf, named in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from your biometric identifiers or biometric information, and we do not disclose them to anyone else unless the law requires it.

We collect nothing described here until you have given this release. By ticking the box below you give your written release for the collection, storage and use of your face photos and the comparison described in this notice, for the purpose and the period stated above.

Legal basis: your explicit consent, Article 9(2)(a) GDPR.
